Live satellite map of Earth · Global geostationary imagery

Disclaimer

EarthMap shows satellite imagery for information only. Scenes can be late or incomplete. Do not use EarthMap as a substitute for official warnings. Always verify with local authorities. EarthMap is not liable for decisions made from this map.

What EarthMap is

EarthMap is a live satellite map of Earth. The imagery is Sat: four geostationary disks that meet at soft seams. The poles are not covered. New scenes arrive about every 10 minutes and are usually on the map within about an hour. This is not a weather-model animation.

The basemap is served from our own infrastructure: Protomaps vector tiles on Cloudflare R2, NASA Blue Marble imagery, and self-hosted Lexend map fonts. No third-party map provider sits between you and the data.

For a fire-incident map, use FireMap. For downloadable geospatial data, use DisasterDB. Read more on the About page.

Data sources

Agency fire points

• USA Fire Points — agency status; Fire Weather Index where shown.
• Canada Fire Points — agency status; fire danger rating where shown.
• European Fire Points — agency / heat footprints where shown.
• Australia Bushfire Points — live agency points.

Fire of Note

Fire of Note means an agency Fire of Note or, in North America, roughly ~1,000 acres of growth in the last 24 hours. Status legend also includes Out of Control, Being Held / Under Control, and Out.

Satellite hotspots

• Hotspot clusters / NASA FIRMS — multi-sensor thermal points (VIIRS, MODIS, Sentinel-3 SLSTR where shown). Newer detections appear stronger; older ones fade.

Sat

• Four disks meet at soft seams: NOAA GOES-East, NOAA GOES-West, and EUMETSAT Meteosat, plus an Asia and Pacific disk. The poles are not covered.

Smoke

• Surface PM2.5 smoke — RDAQA (Environment and Climate Change Canada); North America; BETA.

Wind

• Current and forecast conditions from NOAA’s global GFS model.

Burned Areas

• Burned Areas — historical / burned-area product where shown.

Fire weather

• Fire Weather Index (USA) is based on Copernicus / ECMWF global fire weather forecasts. Canada: fire danger rating.
